President Ashraf Ghanis National Security Advisor (NSA) Mohammad Hanif Atmar has met with Germanys new security and political officials, the NSAoffice confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Atmar left Kabul on Tuesday for Germany for meetings with high-ranking security and defense officials, parliament members and some academics at institutions to discuss political and diplomatic relations and the expansion of security and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Germany, the statement read.
Following Germanys elections, the new parliament and government has started work and said it will work with Afghanistan jointly in fighting terrorism, and improving security, political and economic sectors, read the statement.
It also stated that Atmar has met with the German Chancellors National Security Advisor John Hacker and discussed relations between the two countries.
Atmar thanked Germany for its military role in the Resolute Support (RS) mission and said Germanys support for capacity building in the Afghan police was vital.
The statement said Atmar also stressed the need for the international communitys efforts in helping Afghanistan fight terrorism and in putting political pressure on countries providing sanctuaries to terrorists.
Atmar and German officials discussed governments recent peace offer and he welcomed Berlins support from the Afghanistanian governments peace initiative.
The NSA also held meetings with foreign affairs and defense ministry officials and talked about further improvement of state to state relations. He thanked the German government for improving the capacity of government officials and civil servants.
